FRAYEDGE

With the lack of a common space for students in Temasek Polytechnic to gather together, a pavilion was proposed. With the emphasis on creating forms and shapes which would eventually lead to the creation of a sheltered spatial space for students to chill and hang out.

MASTER

I started studying various works of Sir Nicholas Grimshaw, such as the Eden Project and EMPAC, I took notice of the curved and straight forms which leads to an aesthetically appealing structure

FORM

The pavilion starts with a curved structure and progresses into a straight structure. When entering the space one would feel visually packed and claustrophobic, however, as they walk inwards it gradually becomes spacious, as though they are walking in a tunnel.

STRUCTURE

The pavilion consists of 2 levels, the ground floor is for public area, where students could all gather together and interact, the second floor being a sub-public area where it's a smaller and quieter zone for students to chill and do their work.

FEATURES

The pavilion is enveloped around with steel cables (represented by strings) and covered over with tensile fabric as a facade, creating a unique tensile form. Steel columns make the structure support the overall basic form.
